Pro-Life Prayer Vigil confronts Upper Darby Planned Parenthood

On Monday, March 25, Delaware County citizens marked the traditional date of the Annunciation by holding a peaceful prayer vigil in front of the Upper Darby Planned Parenthood affiliate. The Annunciation is the event when the angel appeared to the Virgin Mary to bring news that Jesus was conceived within her by the power of the Holy Spirit. Planned Parenthood is the world’s leading abortion provider. And so the prayer vigil marked the stark opposition of the Culture of Life versus the culture of death.

Father Dominic Tran Minh Duc, pastor of St. Cyril of Alexandria led the group in prayer. He prayed that all innocent human life would be protected from those who would destroy it for convenience. Barbara Murray, who heads up the Respect Life Committee of St. Laurence parish, thanked the assembled group for coming to the vigil – even in the cold rim and snow. “Your presence in the face if this adversity gives a stronger witness to your reference for the sanctity of Life”, she said.

Will Panagakos, of Generation Life addressed the group to emphasize the need of the advocates of Life to offer their message in the spirit of Love. Author Brian Gail, the best selling author of the trilogy “Fatherless”, “Motherless”, and “Childless”, spoke of the great “yes” of the Blessed Virgin, who – as a teenage girl – faithfully accepted the enormous task of becoming the mother of Jesus. And Delaware County Dean, Fr. Roland Slobogin encouraged advocates of life to remain committed to renewing the culture – and remaining faithful to the Cause of Life.

Afterward, several hundred letters of opposition to Planned Parenthood were delivered to the Township elected officials.

The event was sponsored by the Pro-Life Union of Delaware County (  and the Pro-Life Union of Greater Philadelphia (
